School Social Work

Ms. Akedria Matthews, School Social Worker

Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s),

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Ms. Akedria Matthews and I am your child's School Social Worker. Since this may be your first contact with a School Social Worker, I would like to take a moment to describe my role. School Social Workers actively address barriers within the child, home, school, and community that interfere with student achievement. Myself, along with other School Social Workers, provide services to students and families such as but not limited to, assessments, crisis intervention, home visits (if necessary), individual, group, and family counseling, and a variety of school and community resources. School Social Workers bring knowledge and skills to schools to assist in furthering their purpose to provide a safe, calm, setting for teaching and learning.
I currently work with students in grades K4-8 on developing skills to help them cope with concerns that they may face. Individualized services may include short & long term individual & group counseling. Meetings and lessons with the School Social Worker can enhance self-esteem, interpersonal skills, and give students the opportunity to learn and practice positive behaviors. Working with the School Social Worker helps students learn more about feelings, making good and safe choices, and about getting along with others.
Services are available to all students through parental or teacher referral. Students can also request to speak with me if he/she feels they may need someone to talk with. I am also available to consult and talk with school staff and parents about various topics, and to provide resources and/or referrals if needed. Please contact me if you feel I may be able to help. I may be reached at Repton Junior High School at (251) 248-2960 or email me at akedria.matthews@conecuhk12.com

Thank you so much for your time and consideration and I look forward to serving you and your child/children this school year.
Sincerely,
Ms. Akedria Matthews, School Social Worker
